Julian Wright's Blog: Feb. 12

I’ve been working on my game a lot, specifically my shooting. I have been focusing on staying confident shooting the ball. I’ve also been working on my ballhandling because I know I have to be ready when the team needs me. I have to be able to get in attack mode and still be crisp getting the rim. That’s been my main focus in practice. I am also trying to be more vocal. Some people have that natural gift where they can take some time off lifting or ballhandling and still are sharp when they return. I know personally I cannot afford to take that much time off of anything. I feel like hard work got me to this level and that is what it will take to stay at this level. SOCIAL NETWORKING SLOWDOWNTo be perfectly honest I have been slacking on Twitter. With that being said, in my defense, I have had a lot going on, which leaves less time for tweeting. I think that if I keep tweeting at the more relaxed pace that I am now, it is going to keep me from getting burned out on tweeting. I’ve recently become somewhat addicted to Words with Friends (the iPhone app) where I went 65-17 in my 82-game season. It is just something fun to do but there are a lot of things outside the cyber world that I want to be doing also. DUNK CONTEST PREDICTIONI am going with Shannon Brown to win the dunk contest and not just because he is from the same area as me in Chicago, but because I know what he’s capable of. He is very creative. He was in the dunk contest with LeBron in high school and he was my favorite. He won in my book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1yOsiWUuWI&feature=related He’s got a lot to prove, though. He’s a high-riser and he’s only 6-foot-2. People like shorter dunkers that can jump high. He has big hands so that allows him to do some creative dunks with the ball. I know when he was in high school he’s was really good off one foot. I’m pretty sure he’s got something up his sleeve so I’m just anxious to see what he’s going to do. There is a lot of talk about getting the dunk contest back to focusing on the dunks themselves and less on the “show.” I think it’s all about entertainment. If people want to see amazing dunks they’d just head to the YMCA and see it for free. People are paying money to see these amazing NBA athletes do what they do. I think there is nothing wrong with having that entertainment value as long as the dunk itself is as big as the show leading up to it.

Julian Wright's Blog: Nov. 11

Hey Hornets fans! Julian Wright here. I’ve had a lot of things going on during the offseason, but it’s great to be back home in New Orleans. This summer I drove from New Orleans to my hometown in Chicago to get in some great workouts and family time. The drive wasn’t too bad. My music helped me to keep going along the long straight path, because there aren’t too many fun stops on the way home. I just go through Memphis and then everywhere else is a rural area. I made the first drive from New Orleans to Chicago with my brother Andre. Then I made the drive back home to New Orleans from Chicago with one of my best friends, so it was a good time to vibe out and have some moments to myself. Usually my brother and friend would sleep while I was driving and vice versa. It was really a fun thing to do.ROCK CHALK JAYHAWKI recently got the chance to head back to Kansas for two of our preseason games. I was fortunate enough to play for the University of Kansas for two years, and it was great to go back there and see that the KU support is still alive. Once you are a part of something there, you’re special and you’re always embraced. It was something that I enjoyed, and it definitely created some great memories.MY MUSIC, MySPACESome people don’t know that music has played a big role in my life. I don’t just listen to music. I write music, poetry, arrange songs and sequence songs. I do have a generic MySpace music page right now which I definitely want to get more serious with in the offseason. Right now it just has some instrumentals that I’ve worked on. My ultimate goal is to work with – and write for – artists. I’d love to get into doing some background tracks. I’ll still be continuing to make music but the season is my main focus right now. You can check out some of my work at www.myspace.com/midiusick.A ROOKIE NO MOREIt’s refreshing to not be the young guy on the team this year. With that being said, I haven’t had any part of initiating the rookies into the NBA life. I’m not “old” enough to really pull the pranks on them, but I’m here more to guide and help them not to get pranked. I’ve had my fair share over the past two years but I’m still not in the position yet where I can put my foot in and say, “Hey guys let’s do this.” I just give them my advice and hope it helps them avoid the pranks. I tell them how to deal with rookie life because I’ve definitely been in their shoes. It’s all about having fun and getting to know each other, building chemistry on and off the court.
