Julian Wright's Blog: Nov. 11

Hey Hornets fans! Julian Wright here. I’ve had a lot of things going on during the offseason, but it’s great to be back home in New Orleans. This summer I drove from New Orleans to my hometown in Chicago to get in some great workouts and family time. The drive wasn’t too bad. My music helped me to keep going along the long straight path, because there aren’t too many fun stops on the way home. I just go through Memphis and then everywhere else is a rural area. I made the first drive from New Orleans to Chicago with my brother Andre. Then I made the drive back home to New Orleans from Chicago with one of my best friends, so it was a good time to vibe out and have some moments to myself. Usually my brother and friend would sleep while I was driving and vice versa. It was really a fun thing to do.

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK
I recently got the chance to head back to Kansas for two of our preseason games. I was fortunate enough to play for the University of Kansas for two years, and it was great to go back there and see that the KU support is still alive. Once you are a part of something there, you’re special and you’re always embraced. It was something that I enjoyed, and it definitely created some great memories.

MY MUSIC, MySPACE
Some people don’t know that music has played a big role in my life. I don’t just listen to music. I write music, poetry, arrange songs and sequence songs. I do have a generic MySpace music page right now which I definitely want to get more serious with in the offseason. Right now it just has some instrumentals that I’ve worked on. My ultimate goal is to work with – and write for – artists. I’d love to get into doing some background tracks. I’ll still be continuing to make music but the season is my main focus right now. You can check out some of my work at www.myspace.com/midiusick.

A ROOKIE NO MORE
It’s refreshing to not be the young guy on the team this year. With that being said, I haven’t had any part of initiating the rookies into the NBA life. I’m not “old” enough to really pull the pranks on them, but I’m here more to guide and help them not to get pranked. I’ve had my fair share over the past two years but I’m still not in the position yet where I can put my foot in and say, “Hey guys let’s do this.” I just give them my advice and hope it helps them avoid the pranks. I tell them how to deal with rookie life because I’ve definitely been in their shoes. It’s all about having fun and getting to know each other, building chemistry on and off the court.
